| Top U.S. skaters are scheduled to appear at Skate America
|
|
Olympic silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, 2006 world champion Kimmie Meissner and 2007 national champion Evan Lysacek headline the U.S. figure skaters chosen to compete in 2007 Skate America in Reading.
Belbin and Agosto, who won the ice dancing silver medal at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy, will return to the Sovereign Center Oct. 25-28 in an attempt to win their fourth Skate America title in five years.
Belbin and Agosto won the gold medal in ice dancing in 2003, the first time Skate America was held in Reading. They also won Skate America gold in 2004 in Pittsburgh and 2005 in Atlantic City.
Belbin and Agosto joined Meissner, Lysacek and most of the other members of the U.S. World Team at the Sovereign Center in April for the Marshalls U.S. Figure Skating Showcase.
Caroline Zhang, a teenager who wooed the crowd in Reading three months ago, also will return. The 4-11 Boston native, who turned 14 in May, won the 2007 World Junior Championship and will make her International Skating Union senior level debut.
Emily Hughes, younger sister of 2002 Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hughes, will join Meissner and Zhang as the three ladies representing the United States in the first major international competition of the 2007-08 figure skating season.
“It’s one of my favorite competitions,” Meissner said when she visited Reading in April to promote Skate America.
Meissner, 17, finished second in the 2006 Skate America in Hartford, Conn., before winning her world title in Calgary.

| Kimmie Meissner Fanbook |
|
I'm going to putting together a fanbook with messages, pictures, or anything else to send to Kimmie.
I have a way to get it directly to her and I think it would be something that Kimmie would really like. You can send in anything you want including poems, messages, stuff you have made anything and I will put it together and have it sent to her. The deadline for everything will be July 21st. That way I can get everything together and send it out.
If you are at all interested in submitting something you can do that one of two ways. You can either:
1. E-mail is to kimmiemeissnernet@gmail.com
or
2. E-mail and ask me for my home address and I will give you that information.

| Figure Skating Champion Kimmie Meissner Graduates |
|
(WJZ) TOWSON, Md In the coming days, around 55,000 high school seniors will graduate in Maryland, with many of them going on to accomplish great things.
But as Mike Schuh reports, one of the graduates who walked across the stage Thursday has already accomplished a world of gold.
Fallston High School's Kimmie Meissner has solidified herself as one of the world's premiere figure skaters, and on Thursday she added to her long list of accomplishments by accepting her high school diploma.
The world-renowned Olympian crossed the stage at Towson University along with hundreds of other graduates from Fallston in Harford County.
"I was pretty nervous today to walk across the stage," said Meissner. "I was afraid I was going to trip or do something silly, but I was happy that I just kept walking."
Meissner's parents said they were glad their daughter was able to stay in public school, unlike many of the world's top young athletes whose busy schedules often force them into home schooling or private schools.
"I think that being in public high school was very important for her to stay grounded,"said Kimmie's mom, Judy Meissner.
"She's pretty much stayed so level-headed and she is a normal kid," said Meissner's father, Paul Meissner. "I've seen some people who have been in her position who get pretty heady you know what I mean?"
Although she has graduated, Meissner will still have trouble finding time off.
On Saturday, she will head to Canada to meet with her choreographer to work on her new skating routines for the fall competitions.
